Abortion is on the Ballot Fund
What you need to know
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, bans have eliminated some or all access to abortion in 20 states, meaning one in three women—plus trans and nonbinary people—has lost access to abortion in their home state. This fund supports ballot initiatives to enshrine abortion access in three states, plus Democrats who will defend reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels.
Where your money goes
Arizona for Abortion Access
Republicans in Arizona passed a 15-week abortion ban to take effect in September 2024. However, Prop. 139 will appear on the ballot in November, allowing Arizona voters the opportunity to protect abortion access statewide. Arizona for Abortion Access is leading the charge to educate and turn out voters in support of this ballot initiative.
Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom
The Nevada Right to Abortion Initiative will appear on Nevadans' ballots this November, giving voters the opportunity to enshrine reproductive freedom in the state constitution. Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom led a successful petition to secure this ballot measure by gathering more than 200,000 signatures—double the required threshold—and will continue to educate and turn out voters in support of the amendment.
New Yorkers for Equal Rights
New Yorkers for Equal Rights is a coalition of civil and reproductive rights organizations advocating for the passage of Prop. 1, the New York Equal Rights Amendment, which will cement fundamental rights and reproductive freedoms in the state constitution and protect against attempted anti-abortion bills in the state legislature. Prop. 1 will appear on New Yorkers' ballots this November.
PRES
Kamala Harris
Hold
Kamala Harris is running to expand the promise of our democracy for all Americans and to defeat Donald Trump’s extreme vision for America. If Democrats lose the White House in 2024, a second Trump term would see the GOP pursue priorities such as Project 2025 and a nationwide abortion ban, which we can't let happen.
AZ-SEN
Ruben Gallego
Hold
Ruben Gallego is a current member of the U.S. House running against Kari Lake for the Senate seat vacated by Kyrsten Sinema. Losing this seat to a Republican would directly shift the balance of power for Democrats in the U.S. Senate. Kari Lake is a MAGA zealot backed by Donald Trump who supports stronger restrictions on abortion and spreads conspiracy theories about the 2020 election.
MT-SEN
Jon Tester
Hold
Investing in Jon Tester’s campaign in Trump-favorable Montana is critical for keeping this competitive race on the map. Tester won his first election for the Senate in 2006 with a margin of victory of less than 1 percent and has maintained his seat in a state that is trending increasingly Republican (Biden lost the state by over 15 points in 2020). Tester's ability to hold a Senate seat in deeply red Montana since 2007 speaks to his authenticity and connection to the state's voters.
NV-SEN
Jacky Rosen
Hold
Jacky Rosen is defending her seat against Sam Brown, who supports the far-right agenda of banning abortion even in the case of rape or incest. Abortion will play a major role in this race because voters will also get the chance to vote for the Nevada Right to Abortion Initiative, which Jacky Rosen supports, on the November ballot.
OH-SEN
Sherrod Brown
Hold
Sherrod Brown has represented Ohioans in the U.S. Senate since 2006 and is now defending his seat in a competitive race against Bernie Moreno, who suspended his 2022 campaign before the Republican primary that J.D. Vance ultimately won. While Brown won his last election in 2018 by 6.8 points, the state swung for Trump in 2020 marking a 14+ point shift statewide.
WI-SEN
Tammy Baldwin
Hold
After winning her reelection by 11 points in 2018, Tammy Baldwin is defending her seat against Eric Hovde, a California-based banker who poured upwards of $13 million into his own campaign. This competitive race centers on Hovde's opposition to abortion access and Baldwin's track record of providing for Wisconsin's working families, seniors, and women.
NC-GOV
Josh Stein
Hold
North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein is running to replace retiring Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper—and defeat a MAGA extremist who supports banning abortions without exceptions and opposes women's right to vote. Keeping a Democrat in the governor's office will also be a critical check on Republican supermajorities in the General Assembly, allowing Democrats to safeguard reproductive freedom, protect voting rights, curb GOP gerrymanders, and more.
Swing Left Pennsylvania State Fund
Pennsylvania Democrats narrowly flipped the state House in 2022 and have faced an uphill battle to maintain that majority through the 2023 special election cycle, with the current margin still at +/- one seat. In November, half of the PA Senate will be up for election, with multiple vulnerable GOP incumbents. Swing Left's pooled fund supports six Democrats running for the PA House—three holds and three potential flips—and two Democrats running for the PA Senate, including one open seat and one flip opportunity.
